The pieces I’ve written so far may have left the impression that library catalogers and other workers in Technical Services departments (these days they’re called Collection Management departments in most libraries) have pretty boring jobs and are nose-to-the-grindstone types who rarely emerge from their well-hidden cubicles.
Thank you for this description of the art of being a cataloguer. I'm certain Sally was meticulous and very well suited for this job, although it may also have caused her angonzing moments checking her own work to ensure perfect accuracy.
I'm glad you are keeping this interaction with physical books alive for us. ❤️📚📜
Judy, I find this Stack of your stirs my own creativity. Of course, it is all due to the way view, explore and describe this work, environment and how it interfaces with other human activities and interests.
Reading your weekly portrayals of the history of library science and how its work has evolved over time with your special twist captures me, educates me and is a pleasurable read. Keep writing....
Judy, My friend George Alderson just forwarded me your column, which I enjoyed very much. I retired in 2019 after many years as a Serials Specialist at Widener Library at Harvard - not a cataloger, but still, your piece brings back good memories. Thank you.
